We Celebrate the Human Need to Understand, to Connect, to Create

Dear Discover Community,

Today, on May 24, the Day of Slavic Script and Culture, invites us to pause and reflect on something both simple and profound:

  • Learning is alive.
  • Culture is lived.
  • Language is who we become.

There is a quiet beauty in how it all unfolds.

A letter becomes a word.
A word becomes a thought.
A thought becomes a voice.
And one day, a child finds the courage to speak, to write, to express… and to shape the world.

Like in Hokusai’s words –
“I write, erase, rewrite… and then a poppy blooms.”

So it is with learning, with growth, and with every child.

We celebrate not only the Bulgarian language and culture, but the deeper meaning behind them—the human need to understand, to connect, to create. In our school, this lives in everyday moments:

  • In the child who reads their first sentence independently.
  • In the student who questions, challenges, and seeks meaning.
  • In the teacher who patiently guides, observes, and believes.
  • In the community that holds space for all of this to happen.

This is education – not as a system, but as a living experience.

Books continue to be at the heart of this journey.

They sit quietly on shelves, yet carry entire worlds.
They ask nothing, yet give everything.
They teach us to focus, to imagine, to persist, to understand.

Through them, we learn:
…to concentrate deeply in a distracted world
…to value simplicity over noise
…to pursue mastery with patience
…to trust time as part of every meaningful process

And perhaps most importantly,  we learn to think, to feel, and to become.

As a full IB continuum school – PYP, MYP, and DP – we continue to build not only knowledge, but human beings:

  • Learners who are thoughtful and courageous.
  • Individuals who are open-minded and principled.
  • Young people who are ready not only to succeed, but to contribute.

This is our shared work, responsibility and story.

I invite you to pause –
… to appreciate a teacher,
… to open a book,
… to listen more deeply,
… to speak more kindly,
… to learn something new.

Because in the end, education is not only about what we know, but about whom we become through the process.

Happy May 24th!

May we continue to grow, to learn, and to bloom—together.
