From birth through functional to intellectual independence

This short movie from Montessori environments follows the child’s growth towards independence from toddlers to elementary years.
Liberty is not to be free to do anything one likes, it is to be able to act without help. The young child begins his journey toward developing independence from birth until the moment in which it reaches full functional independence.
The task of becoming a human being is enormous. One must attain control over the body, understand the world, learn one or more languages, incarnate the principles of social life, and find one’s own unique contribution.

The free individual knows how to live harmoniously with others and has the vocabulary that allows them to communicate their needs and respond to other’s needs. Our aim is to put the children in touch with all the cosmic agents and tasks and this gives the children understanding of the interdependency within which freedom is exercised.
